As someone who is frequently going through a retrospective phase, Facebook’s prompt on what happened n years ago on this day really adds to the mood. On the other side, it also serves as a reminder of blog posts that haven’t seen the light of the PUBLISH button. LOL!
This was that time when I, together with some friends, decided to go hiking at Mt. Pico de Loro. I went with my high school friends Prinzel, Khairon, and the coolest teacher ever, Ms Gigi! I don’t remember much about the details as its been years since we climbed (Nov 2012) as I just joined a climb organized by Prinzel’s friend (kaladkarin ever!)
By Public Transportation (Php250 – Php300 for one way)
- From Metro Manila take a bus bound for Cavite and alight in Coastal Mall.
- From Costal Mall, you can take another bus going to Maragondon, Cavite. You can leave as early as 4AM. (Fare is Php80)
- Get off the Tarnate bus station and rent (because there’s no regular trip available) a tricycle to go to the DENR Registration site. (Tricycle rental is Php150 – Php200) (Registration Fee is Php25)
here are some of the pictures I took. It kinda looked like all we did was have a mini photo shoot though. 😛
At the jump off point.
The crew getting ready to head out! (A.K.A getting ready to tire themselves out)
Zel with the DENR reminder.
Stopover midway to rest and take pictures 😀
Setting up camp before continuing on to the summit. Also, preparing our lunch.
left to right top to bottom: Zel, Ms Gigi, Me and Khai. Sorry to the tree that became one of our props. lol
In reality, we were really resting because we were so tired with all the walking. 😉
Enjoying the waterfalls before heading back to base camp. You can swim in the falls there.
My favorite shot among this set. Lucky shot bokeh effect.
My Two Cents:
Climbing a mountain is hard and tiring but once you get to the summit and see the view, it will be worth it. Being one with nature, even for a short while, helps calm your nerves and refreshes you. It also makes you see the bigger picture in life. Your problems, no matter how big you think it is, is nothing compared to the beauty you will see up there. It will help you set things into perspective. 🙂

I want to try hiking too, and even planned to go to Pico de Loro because they say it’s good for beginners. But I don’t think I can really do it after my near-death experience while trekking to the jump-off point during our canyoneering activity. Hahaha
I’m clumsy and I don’t want to be a burden to other people so I might just skip hiking haha maybe someday if I get to become more responsible and more courageous hahaha
really? what happened? having a near-death experience is pretty scary >.<
Thanks, great article.
thank you!
Pico De Loro was my first climb ever! It was such an amazing experience. Although the skies were not as clear as we’ve expected it to be that time, so we we’re not able to climb the monolith. But it was fun!!
