FOCUS ON YOUR STRENGTHS. MANAGE WITH YOUR WEAKNESS.
Most of self-help books suggest that your find your weakness then find ways to overcome it. I learned recently that it is 4 times more effective if you first focus on your strengths then manage your weaknesses.
Last Saturday, I attended a leadership conference by our company at Marriott Hotel and the conference talked about discovering, focusing and using your strengths to help you be better. We were asked to answer a set of questions prior to the event from this site. From your answers, they can deduce your top 5 strengths out of a total of 34 others. After taking the test, I got Input, Learner, Ideation, Relator and Strategic.
They say that when focusing on using their strengths, people are 6 x more likely to be engaged in their task. They gave us this formula for success:
SUCCESS = TALENT X INVESTMENT X ENVIRONMENT
I learned at the conference that the chances of you having that same set of strengths with someone is 1 in 33 million. Wow. Imagine that. No wonder there are no two people are alike. Differences are very much welcome.
For me, finding my strength gives me additional confidence and assurance of things that I know deep down about myself but was too chicken to claim it. I learned a lot from it and I believe it would greatly help me in leading my team. As the speaker told us, Name it, claim it, own it!
Starting today, why don’t find our strength, try focusing on our it first rather than trying to fix our weaknesses and become someone we are not. It wouldn’t hurt, right? 🙂
